General Personality: Melaney is soft spoken though not shy. Having been blind for most of her life, she mostly listens to what others have to say before she’ll voice an opinion or gives advice. She has an open mind and is slow to judge others. Living a day at a time, she tries to enjoy the moment instead of looking it over to see the results. She is reserved when it comes to talking about herself, having always been self conscious ever since she became blind; she hides her reservations by becoming more concerned about others. Laney only knew her parents for a very short time in her life, but she remembers happiness, excitement, love, and safety when she thinks of them. She loves the greatly and while she was a child and they were off on one of their adventures in some far off land, she'd pretend she too were on her own adventures in strange imaginary places. When they'd come back from their trips, she would be there bouncing with the expected thrill of a new and exciting story that she would later dream about all night. Her parents loved her with all their hearts and though they were often gone for seemingly endless amounts of time, Laney never felt neglected and knew that they were there in her heart whether they were physically with her or not.

While her parents were away Laney would stay with their dear friend, a middle aged witch who adored their young child could keep her safe and happy until their return. When the one time they didn't return, this woman; Emily, was there for Laney in every way she knew how to. Laney loves Emily as much as she loves her parents and trusted her to always be there for her. The two shared a bond of more than mother-daughter figures, but also as close friends.

When Laney returned from the United States after the Dark Lord was defeated, Emily was gone and assumed to be numbered among the dead and missing. Though it had a great affect on Laney, because of the way she lives each day, she was able to move pass the pain and remember the good things she would always carry with her because of Emily.

When she was 7 years old, her parents died while they were adventuring in the Himalayas. In their will they had wanted their close friend Emily Blair who lived in a small house in Nayland, England, to take care of their daughter. Emily was a witch who studied the old magics in the world, who quickly became like a mother to Melaney. At age 11, Melaney got her invitation to Hogwarts where she was sorted into Ravenclaw.

During the summer after her first year, just before her twelfth birthday, Melaney suddenly and without explanation, became blind. Dumbledore was willing to let her continue her schooling after Emily spoke with him on her behalf. She returned to school in her second year and struggled to keep up with her work, having to depend on others almost constantly. Eventually she obtained school books that were enchanted to read aloud to her and a note book and quills that would take notes for her and write her assignments while she dictated to them.

She could often be found in the quiet of the library or in a corner of the busy courtyard listening to the other students. Although she made many friends; she was well taken care of by the other students and she in return cared deeply for them, she would often venture out on her own for an adventure or to sit and think in her favorite place near the lake.

It was during her time spent in the library at Hogwarts that she met Clifford Warrington, a Slytherin boy several years above her own. He saw her struggling with her work and was touched by her efforts so he helped her study and from then on they continued to meet in the library to study and Melaney soon became very close friends with him and much better at working with her blindness.

Emily was always concerned about Melaney’s safety but tried to let her keep her adventurous spirit that was much like her parents, but with the violence of the war she felt it was too dangerous for a blind girl to remain in England and had her sent to a good friend in America.

Melaney stayed in America over the course of the war and when her guardian in there decided it was safe, she was brought back to England where she found that Emily had gone missing, and was assumed to be one of the many casualties in the country. Emily had left everything to Melaney, both her house and belongings as well as Melaney’s parents belongings.

She got a job at a floral shoppe because of her love for the beautiful plants. Being too dangerous for her to apparate alone, she gets a ride to work on the Knight Bus. It didn't take long until she wanted a shoppe of her own where she could implement her own ideas, so she used the funds that was set aside for her and bought a small shoppe that she named Petals on the Way. She has a few employees working for her so she is able to run the shoppe, work on new ideas for new seasons, and keep the books current.
